Insurance fraud charges have been filed against an Oklahoma City man accused of filing a false insurance claim stating his motorcycle had been stolen, the state attorney general’s office announced.
Authorities said Adam Lee McHolland made the insurance claim, submitted a proof of loss to his insurance provider and received a settlement check for $12,389.75. An anonymous tip led agents with the National Insurance Crime Bureau and Bethany Police Department to McHolland’s stolen motorcycle at a Bethany residence, the AG's office statement said. According the statement, the owner of the residence told investigators McHolland had asked permission to store the motorcycle in his garage until repairs could be made, but the resident was unaware the motorcycle had been reported stolen.
McHolland is charged with one felony count of false claim for insurance. If convicted, McHolland faces up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.
